Preparing to Study Functional Skills Maths

What is this course about?

This short course will prepare you to study a Functional Skills qualification course. In this time your teacher will also assess you, to see if you are ready for a qualification course. At the end the course you will either progress on to studying Functional Skills Maths or you will continue to develop your Maths skills in a tailored learning course.

Any previous experience/qualifications you need to do the course

You will be asked to undertake a BKSB test online to determine your level.  Please also tells us on enquiry whether you have already gained a qualification in Maths.

What you need to bring with you

Writing implements (including a highlighter), a ruler, a calculator and a notebook.

Learners preparing for a Functional Skills Maths course, returning to learning or looking to improve their Maths skills using English progressing from an ESOL course

How you will be assessed

The two components of the course should give you the skills to perform basic calculations and solve simple worded problems. You will solve simple problems using addition, subtraction, division and multiplication up to 2 digit numbers.

How much studying will I need to do outside the lesson?

Approximately 5 hrs
