What is this course about?
This qualification will allow learners to gain a basic knowledge of childcare in early years environments. This includes the value of play, roles and responsibilities of carers and volunteers, and the importance of developing links in the local community. The qualification covers childcare and development from birth–5 years 11 months.
Mandatory units are:
The value of play for babies and young children.
Management and organisation in an early years setting.
Optional units are:
Introduction to community development in early years settings
Roles and responsibilities in an early years setting
Any previous experience/qualifications you need to do the course
Learners will be expected to have Level 1 English, or equivalent skills.
It is recommended that learners should be volunteering or working in an early years setting.
Learners must have basic digital skills to be able to complete and upload work on a digital platform.
What you need to bring with you
Learners must have a laptop or tablet with a working camera to access Google Classroom
Learners will need to meet full funding criteria.

How you will be assessed
This is a portfolio based course. Assessment tasks will be set weekly and will vary from written assignments, quizzes, creating posters etc.
To complete the Award, learners must achieve 6 credits. 5 credits must be achieved from the mandatory units and a further 1 credit must be achieved from the optional units.
How much studying will I need to do outside the lesson?
Homework tasks will be set every week, so learners should be prepared to spend 2-3 hrs each week outside of the lesson time to complete these assignments.
