What is this course about?
This course will show you how to use social media confidently and effectively to promote a business or improve your employability. You will explore how different platforms work, how businesses use them to attract customers, and how to create content that builds awareness, trust, and engagement.

A basic level of conversational and written English is required plus basic computer skills.
What you need to bring with you
Learning resources will be provided through Google Classroom, giving you access to course materials and activities between sessions.
Who is the course for?
This course is ideal for anyone who wants to:
- Promote their own business using social media, or
- Improve their chances of employment in a role where social media is used to increase sales, visibility, or brand awareness.
No prior marketing experience is needed.

- Functional Skills English to support literacy
- Workshops such as Setting Up Your Own Business
- Progression to a Level 1 Social Media Marketing qualification (subject to eligibility)
How you will be assessed
Assessment is informal and supportive. You will:
- Take part in questions and discussions during sessions
- Complete a short weekly learner reflection to help you track your progress and learning
Each week you will be set a practical task. How much time you spend on this is up to you, but the more time you invest, the more confident and skilled you will become.
How much studying will I need to do outside the lesson?
You should allow 1–2 hours per week to practise the skills covered in class. This might include experimenting with social media platforms or completing a small weekly task.
